Clarity on Regulations: Soot Reducers and Compliance with the Rules
Recently, a communication was circulated in the chimney sector regarding emission reduction systems for biomass generators. The document reported the presence on the market of devices promoted with claims such as:
- Improvement of the generator's energy class.
- Possibility of wall flue discharge as an exception to current regulations.
We want to immediately clarify a fundamental point: these claims are totally incorrect and have no regulatory basis.
The regulation is clear: no exceptions for flue discharge
The current provisions in Italy are unequivocal and do not allow exceptions for biomass:
- D.P.R. 412/1993 and subsequent amendments establish that flue gases must always be evacuated above the ridge of the roof, with no possibility of wall discharge.
- No additional device, even if certified, can change the energy class of a generator. Only the generator manufacturer can test it and issue a new certification in compliance with current regulations.
- Filters and reducers do not in any way replace the chimney flue, but serve exclusively to improve emission quality and reduce pollution.
ETC Group Srl supports correct information
We at ETC Group Srl firmly oppose any misleading statements by companies promoting “chimneyless” systems or claiming to increase the efficiency class of a generator with the addition of an accessory.
We responded to this communication by reiterating our position and requesting clarification on:
- The origin and validity of the document, since it is neither signed nor attributable to an official body.
- The regulatory sources supporting the statements made.
- Any reports of improper use of our brand or our products in misleading statements.
Attention to improper use of acronyms and anonymous documents
A particularly concerning point of the communication received is the use of acronyms of sector bodies and associations without indicating whether they have actually signed the document.
If a text refers to bodies such as Confartigianato, CNA, AIEL, Casartigiani or CLAAI, without the document being officially signed, whoever publishes it assumes great responsibility. In the absence of direct confirmation from these bodies, such statements can generate disinformation and mislead installers and sector operators.
What to do in case of doubts?
We invite everyone to always check the source of a document before considering it reliable. If you have received information claiming that a product can replace the chimney flue or change the energy class of a generator, we invite you to report it to us.
Our goal is to ensure correct technical information and compliance with regulations, preventing unfair practices or misleading statements from spreading in the market.
For any doubts or requests for clarification, do not hesitate to contact us.
